I have arrived in Cincinnati, Ohio - ahhhhh! my home state. Uneventful flight- long day. I had one plane change in Salt Lake City - I took a deep breathe and hoped that the "research masters" were rubbing off on me as I passed through. You just hate to go that far and not stop, wanting to go the library and do some research but not this time.
As you already know, Denise and I got together over dinner last night. It is always good seeing someone from home. (I know it has only been a day but still........) After that I went to my room and crashed...... I had been up since 3:30am Pacfic time - I was pooped.
The weather so far has been wonderful...... mid 80's. Like most of the cities on the east coast Cincinnati is no different - old, lots of brick. And then there is MACY's builidng towering over alot of the other buildings in the area...... Took a stroll around the area, getting to know what is close by.
Spent most of the day at the Cincinnati Public Library. So many conference goers are already here and getting a head start on their research. The library seems new, huge and very airy and well lite. It is a three story building. Genealogy Department is on the third floor. Lots of volunteers and they are gearing up for the thousands of reseachers coming to town this week. I love the statue at the entrance of the library.
There is a food area, plus a really nice gift shop. They have a great selection of cards, so I picked up a very colorful flower laiden popout card for my mother - Mary Jane (Little) Gardner who will be turning 92 this Friday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM! (and Happy Mother's Day on Sunday)
There is a lot of seating out side in front of the library UNLESS school is out and then young people are everywhere. How do I know? I was there after 4pm.
Eat dinner, take a walk around the block, relax in the room, do a couple of batches of 1940 indexing, get a little more organized and get ready for another day............

Shaking Off Jetlag In Cincinnati
| Lunch at the Rock Bottom Brewery |
A couple hours later I was back in my room to finalize my plans for personal research northeast of Cincinnati. Sandi Benward arrived later in the day and we visited at her hotel. She will also be posting this week.

Hello Cincinnati!

From Sacramento to Salt Lake City to Cincinnati, I winged my way to the Queen City on Saturday, May 5th. I enjoyed nutritious food during the flights and played games on the iPad.
I walked and walked and rode a train to baggage claim then walked to the rental car shuttle. Whew, it's a huge airport! The Avis associate was very accommodating as I did my Goldilocks routine: "I can't move the seat forward on this one." "I can't see over the dash on that one." Finally, a car was found and off I went. I noted that the plates say I'm from Pennsylvania! The drive to downtown Cincinnati from the airport was quick (ok, there may have been one wrong turn but Garmin recalculated). The trees and bushes along the roads were green and lush. I quickly glanced left and right driving over the Ohio River. Wow, so many bridges! They all looked like giant erector sets. Oh, I just dated myself!

I think I packed fairly light for the week. The luggage had to be checked at the hotel because my room wasn't ready -- at 5pm! It worked out though - I went to dinner (real food) and returned to finish checking in. My room view is of Sandi's hotel so I will be watching her watching me!! Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue are nearby.
Before the conference begins, there are sites to see and personal family research to be done. My great-great grandparents lived in neighboring Clinton, Highland and Warren counties. Others lived in Adams and Athens counties but they are a bit too far away for this trip. Maybe I will have a Happy Dance report to you!
The weather is great today, no rain and in the 80s. Time to hit the streets!

Wordle – Interesting Site
After having heard about word clouds, I decided to try one. While I have not explored the Wordle.com website thoroughly as yet, what I have seen intrigues me. The site creates word clouds. It seems at this point you may create a cloud and then use a screen capture program to download it. I added my side of the family tree and this is what I created. It contains 99% of the names submitted. My plan is that I must learn how to control and create with it more.
