Root Cellar Sacramento Genealogical Society is very active extracting materials for Family Researchers benefit. We have an active Extraction Committee and we also have individual members that go down on their own and pick a project. Either way it benefits all of us. Most of our extraction projects have been in partnership with the Center for Sacramento History - trying to release information about the Sacramento Area.

We have a wonderful working relationship with the Center for Sacramento History. Patricia Johnson, Archivist and Volunteer Coordinator, helps us to pick projects that will benefit everyone. Thank you Pat.

Thankful Thursday......... for the Learning Opportunities

How many of you not able to make the Richmond, Virginia NGS Conference in May, took advantage of the LIVE Streaming sessions being offered.........??         I did! 

What a great opportunity to take sessions from exceptional professional genealogist. Don't think that many of our society's could afford to pay for some of these wonderful presenters to come for a one day conference. Take advantage of these opportunity's when possible. The cost for these types of sessions are far less costly than actually being there in person.........  

Going forward: I have been slowly working my way through the National Genealogical Society's (NGS) live streaming sessions ($) offered from the NGS Conference in Virginia last month. I was not home when the sessions were LIVE STREAMING - [so does that mean they are 'dead streaming' now. NO! but I couldn't resist it.]  Fortunately,  I have 3 months to watch and listen to them as many times as I want. Better be careful though, one month is already gone and before you know it August will be here and they will no longer be available. Such a great opportunity. Here are the sessions in the Track 1 that I purchased.

I have listened to them all once through right away, and to be very honest I had too many interruptions and need to go back again and re-watch them all ........ and I can do that because I can watch any or all of them through August. GREAT DEAL!!

Motivation Monday - "Find-A Grave" and "DNA" INTERESTED?

Besides discussion of member breakthroughs and finds on your research, and

help for any brickwalls.......  we have a couple of great programs to offer

you also presented during the workshop time.

FIRST........  Linda Johnson, a member, will be giving a live demo of

"Find-a-Grave website". She will offer something on “How-to”, and some tips

& tricks. This should be a very good offering for all members.

SECOND.......  Jim Rader, a member & professional speaker, has graciously consented to share his experience with us on DNA. He has put together a special 3 part series on DNA. Come and get your questions answered, no really, get those questions you have answered. Learn the how, what, where

and why of DNA testing and what comes next after testing.

Jim has scheduled a 3-part series, each an hour, at the June 18th workshop, July 16th workshop, & August 20th workshop.

Two great presentations to look forward too. So be sure to mark your calendars for the June 18th Workshop. Be prepared to learn, be prepared to interact, be prepared to help and support others that come.

I am very excited. I hope to see you there. Come early for a good seat.

Society Saturday.......... AND it Begins all over AGAIN!!

DRUM ROLL PLEASE.......... We are very proud to introduce to you Root Cellar SGS's New 2014-2015 Officers. They were elected in May and installed in June..........  and took office immediately....  

CONGRATULATIONS!!

John Jay, Immediate Past President- far right has the responsibility of installing the new officers and install he did. Communication being one of the best tools we have to offer our membership, John wanted to make sure that this group was given an advantage of talking to each other no matter what the technology and so he spared no expense and purchased the latest and greatest communication antenni for each officer.
