Free Genealogy Program at the Sacramento Central Library

You are invited to attend the following free genealogy program at the Sacramento Central Library, at 828 I Street in Sacramento, this Saturday:
 
Saturday, October 6th, 1:00 - 2:30 pm, in the West Meeting Room:
Beginning Genealogy: How to Trace Your Family History
Speaker: Karen Burney

Description: This class will teach you the steps for tracing your ancestry. Learn what records and resources are available, as well as how and where to find your family's information. Karen will also give tips for organizing your research.

About the Speaker
Karen Burney has spent over 20 years researching her family history. She is a member of the National Genealogical Society (NGS) and the Founder of the African American Genealogy Group known as The Roots Exchange and Education Society (TREES). She has researched many areas of genealogy but her primary areas of interest are the Civil War and the Antebellum South. As an instructor, she has taught classes on a variety of topics, including Beginning Genealogy, Texas and Louisiana Research, Digital Scrapbooking, Oral History, Slave Research and Using Genealogy to Plan your Family Reunion.

Parking: On Saturdays, the only free parking close to Central Library is in the Sacramento County Jury Parking lot, which is an open lot between 8th and 9th and F and G Streets.

September Classes at the Sacramento Public Library

Beth Daugherty, Librarian at the Sacramento Public Library Central Branch, has scheduled an exciting line-up of genealogy programs for September.  Registration is preferred by calling (916) 264-2920.  The genealogy programs are sponsored by the Friends of the Central Library.

September 9
Genealogy On the Go with the iPad or Tablet with Lisa Louise Cooke
Llearn about the top apps and best practices to make your iPad or tablet a genealogical powerhouse.  A nationally known author and host of Genealogy Gems Podcast, Lisa's books and CDs will be available for purchase at the program.

September 16
Build Your Own Genealogy Blog with Craig Siulinski
Are you interested in blogging about your family history research or other aspect of genealogy?  Learn how to get started in this presentation by Craig Siulinski.

September 23
The WPA: Resources for your Genealogy with Gena Philibert Ortega
From 1935 to 1943, the staff of the Works Progress Administration created indexes of historical records across the U.S.  Lecturer Gena Philibert Ortega will show how this unique resource can benefit your research.

SEPTEMBER PROGRAMS
The Central Library of the Sacramento Public Library system is offering three free genealogy programs in September on Sundays, 1:30 – 3:00 pm:
These programs will be held at the Central Library, 828 I Street, in the 1st floor West Meeting Room.  Street parking near the library is free on Sundays.  For more information, please call the library at (916) 264-2920.

Social Networking for Genealogists
Sacramento Public Library
Computer class, taught by library staff.  Registration required.
Date: Saturday, September 3, 2011.  10:15 - 11:45 am.

Book a Genealogist
Central Library’s genealogy volunteer is available to meet with you individually to help you with your family history research.  Appointments are 45 minutes in length.  We now have a second volunteer, so appointments are also available on Wednesdays, 11:00 am and 12:00 pm.

Registration is required.
Dates: Tuesdays, September 6, 13, and  27, 2011.
Wednesdays, September 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2011.
Location: Central Library, 828 I Street, 4th floor Genealogy Center.
