The Calaveras Genealogical Society has announced its Spring Seminar on April 20, 2013 in San Andreas. The speaker will be Glenda Gardner Lloyd, Root Cellar Sacramento Genealogical Society's very own charter member, past president, current Parliamentarian and more. Glenda has extensive knowledge about genealogical research methods and resources and easily conveys her passion for family history to her audience. Her classes at the 2012 Family History Day at the California State Archives left quite an impression on the large delegation of members attending from Calaveras County!
The seminar announcement is pictured below but please go to the website to download it to register.
My thanks to Kathryn Doyle of the California Genealogical Society for sending the announcement to me.

Two Great Seminars
Autumn is a popular season for genealogical seminars. Here's a couple for your consideration:
Sacramento Family History Center - Saturday, November 3, 2012. Read more here. Right here in River City, multiple classes to choose from presented by genealogical experts and an option to get the syllabus in pdf or hardcopy. I'll be attending this one.
Genealogical Society of Stanislaus County [Modesto] - Saturday, November 10, 2012. Featured speaker Christine Rose will present four topics. Read more here. Ms. Rose's books are frequently recommended. It's a little late in learning about this but I'm considering going to this one since it's not that far away.

Beverly Rice, Certified Genealogist from Coos Bay, Oregon, will present the following four lectures during the all-day event, in this order:
- An Ancestral Journey - Charting Family Migration using Census, Land, Military, and other Records. Focuses on using a variety of records to better understand your family and avoid those research brick walls.
- Effectively Using the Census Records of 1790-1840. Includes indexing, microfilming, digitizing and availability of these schedules, and how to turn the "tally marks" into a family with names and ages.
- The Forgotten War, the War of 1812. Caught between the glory and size of the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, the soldiers and sailors of the War of 1812 still have a story to tell if only we would listen. The pensions, bounty land, and service records at the state and national repositories will be discussed.
- Heading West to new Horizons, or "Following Your Man." Women are often lost in the lives of their men. This lecture explores the resources available to the researcher which pertains to a woman's experience in the west, 1850-1900. Going beyond the records created by the "male" in her life and focusing on the activities that defined a woman's life from school, church, and home.
