Wordless Wednesday - ROOT CELLAR Member Siting on the East Coast

Editor's note: Today's post was written by Sandra Gardner-Benward (pictures from Lois Shumaker)

Well, not the entire Society, but Lois Shumaker, was able to spend a day at Godfrey Library on her way to her 50th High School Reunion.
(Notice Lois is a true Root Cellar'er wearing her official T-shirt)

Lois says, "Godfrey Library has a great collection for Connecticut and Massachusetts history, both colonial and later. Lots of good local files". One day is not enough for any library. She will be back again. I need to check this out for my ancestors BRISTOL in New Haven, Connecticut. But I am now hearing that they may have originally come in through Massachusett and then down to Connecticut. Something new to research.

Talented Tuesday - Transcribing/ Extracting/ Indexing is IN

Editor's note: Today's post was written by Sandra Gardner-Benward

Root Cellar has a strong sense of community and helping. We partnered with the Center for Sacramento History and have given hundreds of hours for transcribing/ extracting / indexing for them. It benefits Root Cellar Sacramento Genealogical Society, Center for Sacramento History and the public in general. It is a win-win for all.

Once a year Pat Johnson, Senior Archivist and Volunteer Coordinator for the Center of Sacramento History invites us for a special luncheon. It is a nice gesture but also allows us a social time with all the staff in the Center- getting to know them better.

This is only a small group for lunch this time. But it is all good and appreciate by all.

Thanks to ALL our volunteers. A big shout out to Marilyn Ulbricht who leads this group and keeps projects moving forward.

Following Friday - A New Home for a Local Genealogical Library

Editor's note: Today's post was written by Sandra Gardner-Benward

Roseville Genealogical Society of Roseville California has a wonderful opportunity to move their genealogical library from the basement of the Carnegie Museum in Roseville to the Roseville Public Library Downtown Roseville. Contracts have been signed, an open house at the libray was held a couple of nights ago. Now it just needs to be approved by the City of Roseville Council. I am sure that is just a formality now. CONGRATULATIONS to the Roseville Genealogical Society and to the Roseville Public Library. This a big win-win for both organizations and for the public.

This is a big shout out from Root Cellar Sacramento Genealogical Society to our sister genealogy society Roseville Genealogical Society. .

                                                            Roseville Public Library, Roseville CA

This is only one of the shelves that will house the Roseville Genealogical Society Collection of books. They also will have a locked up area with reference books. Only the docents from the society will be able to show those books and materials off.

This is part of the new genealogical section at the Library. Really a great move and super fit for both organizations. I believe it will bring more attention to their collections, books and materials and probably alot more interest in their society.
The Downtown Library is very nice, light and airy.......  so well lite! As you can see there are many glassed in rooms and areas sectioned with glass..........  makes it even more airy and well lighted. This certainly will make it a pleasure to watch over their books and spend time at the library.

Now I know if I were searching for an ancestor that was buried in the Sacramento County Hospital Grounds I won't find those grounds anymore and I need to visit St. Mary's Cemetery.
